Dan and I observed and photographed a male white-winged scoter on South Twin Lakes, Colville Tribal Reservation, on May 29-30th. We attempted to photograph this species in the Puget Sound region but were not successful this year.

There were also 7 adult bald eagles and 5 immatures noted on both South and North Twin Lakes. We have noticed a great increase in avian predators on these lakes, such as the GBH and the bald eagle in the last four years. Subsequently, there has been a noticeable decrease in the nesting waterbird population. The common loon territorial pair continues to nest on South Twin Lake and has one chick. Last year, the two chicks were predated by eagles within two weeks of hatching.
