sorry i'm so late, but work has been interesting...

anyway, last weekend at wenas was a lot of fun, even though my favourite
interests chose to be elsewhere while i was "with camera"... however, among
the more fun photos were a number with a pair of nesting pygmy nuthatches,
found where they were two years ago in a small snag about 200 metres or so
from the larrison tree... this year, there weren't 15 birds with problem
IDs, but one in particular (#2, i think) this year makes me look silly...
if you know what he is, please reply off-list so i can update the image and
page...

interesting behaviour moments: (1) a western bluebird male hovering on the
ridge between ellensburg and wenas near box 104, not once, but several
times... i couldn't see what he was diving on, but i'd assume it was tasty
morsels... (2) finding a black-billed magpie feasting on tire-tread
squirrel near ellensburg... (3) watching brewer's blackbirds attack a
red-tailed hawk... (4) seeing a pair of american kestrels in an incredible
aerial dogfight for about one minute while nestboxing...

lastly, the honour of helping the yakima valley audubon with nestbox
monitoring on saturday, which netted (among other things) a female mountain
chickadee on the nest. she was incredible, taking us in stride while we
were taking notes...

i hope you enjoy both the white-faced whistling duck (june 2007, in the
Calendar gallery) and the wenas photos (in Photos of the Month)...
