This morning at 7:15 am I found a Baltimore Oriole on Bateman Island in
Richland. It was also the day of Lower Columbia Basin Audubon's Bateman
Bird Walk and REI trail clean-up day, so the activity level was very high
after 8 am.

The bird had a full black head and was singing. Better details will be sent
to the records committee. Unfortunately we were not able to get any
pictures but will try tomorrow.

The bird was about 1/2 mile up the west trail (go across the causeway and go
straight, do not turn off). There are mulberry trees just as you get off
the causeway (full of birds including Gray Catbird). Then there is quite a
lack of mulberries. The trees where the Baltimore Oriole was first located
was at the edge of the island behind 2 prominent mulberry trees to the left
of the trail. It would come into the mulberry to eat.

>From Highway 240, take the Columbia Center Blvd exit north (toward the
river, away from the mall). At the end, turn left go about 1/4 mile to the
island; park at Wye Park.

The weather is supposed to be very hot tomorrow so being there early is a
must.
