The north Snohomish County Western bluebirds at the Kunde Road
clearcut have apparently fledged. An empty nest Friday morning
followed several days of the young taking turns hanging quite far out
of the box while being fed. The actual moment when the young left
the box was not observed, however, recent weather conditions have
been excellent. The male adult remains at the box apparently
defending it from investigating swallows, so perhaps the Bluebird
pair will attempt a second clutch. Two other nestboxes on other
clearcuts in the vicinity currently have Bluebird eggs, with adults
in attendance.
