Hello All,
This morning MerryLynn and I headed over to Richland in hopes of seeing the
Baltimore Oriole, but no luck! We also joined Nancy Laframboise for a chance
to see Black-chinned Hummers, Yellow-breasted Chat and Gray
Catbirds-Thank-you Nancy!! We also caught up with the Am. Golden Plover (#
213 in the county for the year) at Tyson Ponds-this appears to be a first
year bird still molting into alternate plumage. What a great bird for June
in the Lower Columbia Basin. We also saw an adult alternate plumaged
Black-bellied Plover on the blood pond along Dodd Rd.. Also nesting on the
thick crust afloat on this blood/urea pond are 2 nesting pair of Am. Avocet
and five pair of Black-necked Stilts. We also drove out to the huge
Tricolored Blackbird colony off Fruitvale Rd. in Umatilla Co., Oregon, only
6 miles from Walla Walla. This colony is home to more than 250 birds. Two
males were at our garden feeder last evening.
We made it home to a cool house before the super HOT temps hit!
Later Mike
