Subject: [Tweeters] Stillwater AMERICAN REDSTART and YELLOW BREASTED CHAT

as marc alluded earlier, we were also at stillwater today, along with a
bazillion others looking for the redstart and the chat, finding other birds
as well....

i have to say, our luck with the chat was poor; he was heard, about 100+
metres out from the trail, but was not seen by our group (that i
remember)... however, we had great success in spotting the american
redstart, if difficult in getting him to pose for more than 1 second on any
single perch... folks were laughing at me as i would narrow in on pushing
the button, only to have the bird telepathically notice such and fly... i
had more than a few photos of blank space where said redstart had been
located not one second before...

also enjoyed: (1) an american bittern in a pond further down the trail; i
had no sooner said "i think i see the body" when "the body" decided to fly
across the pond to a better-hidden location... (2) numerous western
wood-peewees, (3) willow flycatchers, (4) invisible black-headed grosbeaks,
equally-invisible (5) swainson's thrushes, (6) exasperating common
yellowthroats, (7) a few red-breasted sapsuckers, (8) swallows of many
varietals, including northern rough-wings, (9) cedar waxwings (mine weren't
romantic), (10) robin on nest, (11) several gorgeous Lorquin Admirals, and
(12) an ever-entertaining rufous hummingbird (who put on quite the aerial
acrobatic routine, zipping straight up, then careening downwards toward our
location on the trail to stare at us for a few seconds, then screaming
upward again)...

OH! almost forgot: we met someone named Lupita, and she also appears in
this month's gallery showing!

and, as marc pointed out, we dipped on the lazuli bunting, but came up aces
on a few common yellowthroats around the dirt piles at the northeast end of
the dog run at marymoor...

wenas photos are also available on my website in the "photos of the month"
gallery, and to remind, the June 2007 calendar is also available for
download... Enjoy!
