Matchmaker Matchmaker, make me a match! I am so tickled to announce that
my lone mourning dove has a friend now!

I've had a mourning dove in my yard for almost two months now. I only saw a
glimpse of it on my porch (eating seed), and never anything more than a
fleeting glimpse of it flying away when I spooked it as I would walk by the
big flowerbed in the center of my front yard. The bird spends a lot of time
in that center bed (which is an oval about 30' long and 15' across).

Yesterday, my husband pointed out there are now two doves in the front bed.
We stood about 20' away and watched the pair puttering around eating the
seed that had fallen under the feeder. I was SO excited to see the second
bird, as there had only been one bird flushed out anytime I'd passed by the
flower bed for the last weeks!!!

I bought quail/dove mix, and scatteredi t about the bed... I want to make
sure my new couple is happy and well fed!

My neighbor's *#&*&^ at % cat who has been devouring my birds, I believe, is a
thing of the past. We've had serious coyote problems the last three weeks.
They've jumped the fence mid-morning for a neighbor's Yorkie (doggie escaped
thanks to another neighbor's screams!). We started with one coyote, now I
have seen four in the pack.

Over the last two weeks, I've seen NO cats in my neighborhood - but
increasing numbers of "missing kitty" signs on street posts <sigh>.
I love kitties, but inside the house, not left outdoors to fend for
themselves. I'm so horrified that a pet has met an unfortunate demise, yet
at the same time I am thrilled that I no longer have to spread mothballs,
red pepper, etc... to keep that dang cat away from my feeders. It's an odd
mix of emotions.
