Bob Crew and I had a very nice tour over the weekend,
first to Ridgefield, then through the Columbia Gorge,
north to Conboy, Goldendale, and finishing through the
Yakima Canyon.

At Big Pines in the Yakima Canyon there were more than
100 Common Nighthawks circling and flycatching above
the river and into the opposite canyon. Is this normal
for this time of year? Are they migrating?

Cedar Waxwings and lots of Brewer's Blackbirds,
including a pair mating, were also at Big Pines.

Ridgefield was very birdy, notably a Virginia Rail,
baby Coots, Ruddy and other ducks, American Kestrel,
Redtail, Western Wood Peewee.

The other hot spot was the Balch-Lyle cemetary where we
saw Lesser Goldfinch, Say's Phoebe, Western Bluebirds
using a nesting box, Willow Flycatcher and more.
