HI Susan and Tweeters

I've worked in the Renton environs for about 5 years now, driving a school bus for the district. When I first started I heard a jay calling that didn't sound quite like our more "normal" resident Steller's jay. Much to my surprise I spotted a pair of scrub jays nesting in a tall doug fir across the street from the bus barn. I thought they must be here by mistake. But through the years they've stayed here and their (presumably) offspring are setting up housekeeping all over the place. I've seen them near Renton High school and have received several reports from co-workers who've seen them in other places. Seems they've moved in permanantly.

Sometimes I think a bumper sticker like the one you describe would be good for my school bus, too. Often the students on my bus get a little birding field trip on their way to school. Bald eagles abound, osprey and their nests are always highlights, and assorted ducks never cease to amaze! Especially when they're waddling up the street in front of me, worriedly looking back over their shoulders and refusing to fly away. Then, of course, I have to slow way down. And I always honk at the road clean-up crew, my favorite the crow!

Happy birding!

Susan in Renton, too.
