in my innocent ramblings on the intertubes today, i ran across an almost
innocuous little bit of mail, that pointed to a little article, that pointed
to a TV programme (a favourite of mine when i'm in the UK in the spring,
aptly entitled "SpringWatch" on BBC2), that pointed to a blog.

the blog is entitled The square metre at TQ7828618846, and it is all about a
naturalist's study of a one-metre plot of his backyard over the past 3.5
years. During that time, he has identified 700 varieties of plants and
animals (to include avians) from that one square metre of earth... having
lived within miles of the spot, i can tell you that, while beautiful and
charming, there's nothing overtly remarkable about the location with the
possible exception of the naturalist...

for those interested in reading more, the link is
http://squaremetre1.blogspot.com/... were any of us to think of a one-metre
plot of land anywhere near our homes, would we find a similar bounty,
identify as much variety?
