Subject: [Tweeters] Woodinville Nighthawks

Last night around 9 I was out shoveling manure when I heard common
nighthawks. I alerted the household, who came running with night-vision
binocs. No sign of nighthawks until said binoculars went back inside, at
which point the nighthawks reappeared and flew, peenting, over the
house. First time I have seen or heard them in four years there, and I
shovel manure many an evening.
I told my Floridian mom, who said she has to set a lot of people
straight about nighthawks--a common SW Florida myth is that nighthawk
noise is in fact alligator mating calls.
