Hi all,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the great info many of you passed along in
response to my request a few weeks ago, and to the few helpful folks I met
in the field. My wife and I had a very successful trip to the Ellensburg
area where we had no trouble finding all of our target species and plenty
more. Most exciting for me was finally tracking down my nemesis bird -
Williamson's Sapsucker. We found a pair on a nest and had excellent views.
We also saw Red-breasted and Red-naped Sapsuckers (and a hybrid of those two
as well), White-headed Woodpecker, Sage Thrasher and Sage Sparrow, 2
Northern Pygmy-Owls, and heard two or three Flammulated Owls. We were also
very impressed with all the Western and Mountain Bluebirds (and many other
goodies) on the Umtanum Road on the way to Wenas.

We had about 2 1/2 days total in the area and tallied up about 95 species.
This was my fifth time birding in Washington and the first time we got to
spend an extended amount of time on the eastern slope of the Cascades. The
diversity of habitats and birdlife in your state is outstanding. I really
enjoy birding out your way and can't wait to get back again!

Thanks again,
