Squirrels! I'm taking down my bird feeder, okay, but a young squirrel died
here several days ago. My neighbor said it suddenly jumped up,
somersaulted, hit the ground, and convulsed. When I arrived it tried to
run, but only had one or two legs working and made semicircles. When it
couldn't get up again it lay still and died in minutes. No sign of any
problem on it. I disposed of it as the City specified, but hadn't thought
that it could have something that would infect birds. Birders,
you've seen it all, what killed the squirrel, and is it likely to affect my
friendly birds?

I have reluctantly taken down my sunflower and niger feeders. Am I right in
assuming that it is OK to leave up peanuts in shells (for Steller Jays),
Shelled peanuts (for Chicadees and a few others)' Hummingbird sugar water,
suet, and corn cobs (for the squirrels)? I will take those down too if
necessary, but it seems like it is finches who are in danger. Am I right?
