Good Evening All,

This morning we ran into Steve Mlodinow and Brad Waggoner at Washtucna as we
looked the Bassett Park area over. Steve and Brad then headed off to Lyons
Ferry Park and there they discovered a singing adult alternate plumaged
SWAMP SPARROW. They left us a note at a pre-arranged spot in the park and we
too had great looks at this first known summer record for Southeastern
Washington. This rare summer record was first heard singing at the base of
the dike trail out to the two islands in the Palouse River near the old
ferry. We later re-located located it north near the old canoe/kayak put-in
at the north end of the parking area/ turn-around north of the dike trail
out to the islands. Hints on locating this bird-please be a patient as it
jumps up and sings loudly off and on. Lets not I-POD this one to death. Just
watch and listen. We had it come out onto the shoreline and bathe then sing
20 feet in front of us. Thank-you Steve and Brad!!
Later Mike
