After reading the trip report for Marymoor Park last week and seeing the
mention of the GREEN HERONs, I decided to kayak the Sammamish River on
Sunday in search of them.

I launched from the Sammamish River rowing club and on my return back, I was
able to photograph a single GREEN HERON perched on a snag in the water.

After this one flew, I confirmed the presence of one or possibly two more,
although I could not photograph them. I was unable to confirm the presence
of a nest.

While kayaking, I managed views of several GREAT BLUE HERONs along the
river, as well as five BALD EAGLEs, some adult, some juvenile over Lake
Sammamish as they came down and tried to pluck fish from the water. These
would have been viewable from the platform that overlooks where the
Sammamish River and Lake Sammamish converge, which is part of the trail that
runs along the river and then along the outside of the park. In addition, I
saw a single female BLUE WINGED TEAL that was resting near the convergence
point.

While walking to the rowing club launch point, I found a single female WOOD
DUCK in the pond on the left-side of the trail and what appeared to be two
juvenile WOOD DUCKs, although I couldn't confirm it given the distance.

Thanks to the person that provided the trip report in place of Michael Hobbs
(sorry, don't have the e-mail any longer.)
