Monday evening I got a call from Cindy and George Mayfield who
were looking at a Golden-Plover at the River "S" Unit of the Ridgefield
Refuge in Clark County. I hurried the 40 miles to the refuge from our
place and had fairly good scope views of the bird from about 7 to 8 PM. I
could see fair amount of white feathers extending from the white neck to
the rump. The undertail coverts were black with a few splotches of white
near the tail feathers which were slightly longer than the wings. The
primary feathers did not extend very far past the tail and you had to
look closely to see any extension. Unfortunately I took an empty camera
bag with me to the refuge and we did not get any photos of this bird
which I strongly believe was a Pacific Golden-Plover.
