Next time you see the owl, I have a suggestion on how to see the front of
the bird. Try making a noise like a mouse. That should do the trick!

Seriously, I suspect that your owl is a Barred Owl. Barred Owls are active
in the daytime more often than Horned Owls, and are probably just as common
in your area.

Anyone have any good photos of the backs of our local
owls? I have an owl in my back acreage and I never get
to see the front of it. It is about 15-20", dark brown
with black banding across its back as it flies. Why
can't field guides ever show us the views we really
see, hee hee!
