Paddling around the arboretum yesterday, I watched and photographed a
bold little raccoon as he fished along the water's edge. In the
process, he flushed a female Wood Duck, which reminded me there was a
nest box in a nearby tree. Clearly the raccoon had the same epiphany.
I was able to document his climb up the tree and his rather
transparent thought process as he decided whether he could
effectively raid the nest box:
