I had Black Headed Grosbeak (BHGR) at the back feeder this morning--either a female, or a Hatch Year (HY) male.
Per the discussion (last winter) about who eats snowberries: last night I watched a Rufus Hummingbird, probably this year's male (perhaps a female) drink the nectar from almost all the snowberry blossoms--worked with two rest stops for about a half an hour--after that I lost visual contact. So, not only do birds, specifically Song Sparrows, Spotted Towhees, and Robins, eat the berries (esp after a good frost), but the hummers and bees really work the bushes over in late spring. That's enough for me to be happy that I have several of these native plants in my yard.
