My rufous too have mostly left the area. On Tuesday we went up to Sunrise
on Mt. Rainier (baby Clark's nutcrackers everywhere) and when I got home
only 3 of the original 10 were left. They must have checked their day
planners and realized that summer is getting on and there are higher places
to visit. Early wildflowers are in bloom at higher elevations and we did
see a couple rufous at Sunrise so maybe the hummers have headed to greener
pastures so to speak. I do miss their chases, posturing and noisiness,
especially in the evening when the feeder right outside my living room
window has been a source of entertainment far beyond anything TV can offer.

The mountain quail are still coming in to feed but now the males and females
are coming in by themselves and not as pairs. So I'm guessing there are
eggs or little ones being guarded.
