Hi Tweeters,

Reggie David from Hawaii and I did some birding in the Capitol State
Forest on the border of Thurston and Grays Harbor Counties yesterday
morning. After entering from the north, we made our first stop near Rock
Candy Mountain at the intersection of C-4000, C-8000, and C-4600 forest
roads. We had immediate luck there finding HERMIT WARBLERS, with about
10-12 birds heard singing within a half mile of the car. It took us
nearly an hour and a half to finally get good looks at one though, but one
cooperative bird in a fairly low tree sat still long enough that we even
got good scope looks it. At this particular location, Hermit Warblers
were by far the most common species vocalizing. Soon after this, at about
9 a.m. at the same site, we heard one MOUNTAIN QUAIL give a series of 6-8
call notes from the hillside below us to the northwest. We remained in
the area for another half hour, but it gave no further calls.
