Scott,
actually, they do range up to East Africa and the Rift
Valley. I saw one in 1996 in Tanzania. I found some
web pages that list its range, it does make it into
Nigeria.
They are REALLY cool birds! Fantastic to watch them
forage!

This bird is most frequently seen by the forested and
savannah areas of sub-Saharan Africa. Its prime range
is from Abyssinia south to the Zambesi River and West
to The Gambia.
It is uncommon in the plains or the thornbush areas.
