Hello All:
Ryan Shaw and I birded out at the coast today. It was mostly cloudy, and
cold, but fortunately the wind wasn't too bad most of the day and the rain
held off for us.

We first stopped at Bottle Beach where we observed the White-tailed Kite
that has been around all winter, plus a Western Bluebird flying over, and a
female Cinnamon Teal in the wetland on Ocosta Third Street. Next we birded
the Westport Jetty. The best birds of the day were 10 or so FORK-TAILED
STORM-PETRELS flying in Grays Harbor, some of them relatively close to
shore. It was nice to get excellent studies of these blown-in birds. Also of
note at the jetty were nearly 100 Black-legged Kittiwakes and a great number
of Red-throated Loons. On our way out of Westport we found an adult, light
morph Harlan's Hawk on the entrance road to the state park.

Midway Beach was very slow and we failed to find any Snowy Plovers.
Similarly, North Cove and Tokeland produced only expected species, so that's
about all to report!

Cheers,
Charlie Wright
