I know there must be some eagle experts who can help me with this one. Today I saw a juvenile bald eagle at Wallace Swamp Creek Park. It was huge so I assume it was a female. she generally streaky brown and white had some white on the head ( eyebrow and jowls) bill yellow or mostly yellow. I know it takes several years to get to the classic National Bird look but are there specific stages along the way that indicate how old a juvenile is?
The LFP Neighborhood Birdwalk group visited the Kenmore Heron Rookery Sunday morning. we counted 90+ birds mostly standing guard over their nests but a few appeared to be incubating. A helicopter flew over and about half of the herons lifted off their nests. it was quite a sight.
