I also saw, or rather startled, at least 3 Band-tailed Pigeons off my
feeder this AM for the first of the year. It seemed awfully early so I
looked up my records.
It should be pointed out that there are Xmas Count records. Mostly at
Diamond Point as I recall.
Scanning from Jan to March, of '94 to '07. I had one along the Strait at
Dungeness on a January 25 with Judy Mullally. At our house, our earliest
arrival was 2-25 with a 3-1 arrival one year. So Demi Wood's birds and mine
have not set a new arrival record. I took it as a sure sign of Spring
however. Mostly it is the winter birds melting away however.
