Alice the Cooper's Hawk was back today in my yard (in Blaine's exclusive
Upper East Side, near the power lines) hunting in the fog. She was
successful with a pine siskin on her second attempt.

The eagle's nest on the south-bound truck route on-ramp to I-5 in Blaine
continues active; the bird look like little kids in a bathtub, peering over
the edge.

Will be looking for the Stein Road Northern Hawk Owl today and will let you
know what I find.

If Bob Sundstrom of the Seattle Audubon Society reads this, please get back
to me re a guided trip. I had computer problems and have lost his address.

Finally, Bev Day says that the Northern Hawk Owl at the Orphaned Wildlife
Rehabilitation Society (OWL) near the Boundary Bay (B.C.) airport is a
permanent care bird from Kay McKeever's "Owl Rehabilitation Foundation" in
Vineland, Ontario. It was hit by a truck and broke a wing which was then
amputated below the wrist. It will never be released. Ditto the pair of
Kestrels, one of whom is a human-raised bird and the other, the male, went
through a forest fire and can't fly more than a few yards without gasping
for breath. They raise two to adulthood each year, but actually more than
that because the folks at OWL play musical babies with them. That way they
release up to four Kestrels a year.
