Hello All,

My day started off at 5:30 AM up on Mt Spokane trying to track down that
pesky Barred Owl to no avail. But other enjoyable birds made up for the
loss.. A GRAY JAY at the Mt. Kit Carson parking lot, Chestnut Backed
Chickadees several places - including as low as Madison Rd. An Am Dipper
made a brief appearance at the bridge on Hghway 206 at Miner Rd. Newly
arrived Spotted Towhees sang from various perches.

There were several flocks of Violet Green Swallows feeding over the Peone
Wetland and at least one, maybe two Eurasian Wigeons were present. A pair of
Tundra Swans fed in the marsh as well. Am Tree and White Crowned Sparrows
chased along the bushes on Taylor Rd and a pair of Barn Owls flushed from
the thicket on the Feryn's place.

My first pair of TREE SWALLOWS of the year greeted me at the Little Spokane
River and Rutter Parkway. A Northern Pygmy Owl responded to a call at
Painted Rocks as did the normal flock of chickadees, nuthatches, and Winter
and Bewick's Wren. Duck Corner continues to host the Red Necked Grebe but
there were no Barrow's Goldeneyes today. A Canyon Wren sang from Riverside
State Park at Seven Mile.

The normal expected ducks are beginning to show up on the Medical Lakes.
They are in excellent plumage. Sprague Lake was mostly uneventful, except
for a Mt Bluebird just east of town.

The Reardan - Davenport corridor was pretty bare as well, until late this
afternoon, an Adult Golden Eagle flew over Hghway 231 just south of Hgway 2.
While watching the eagle, I heard the unmistakable sound of SANDHILL CRANES,
only to look over my shoulder and discover three of them in the wet area
along 231. There were a couple of Say's Phoebes along Old Kuchs Rd. The
Reardan ponds were loaded with ducks, among them, another Eurasian Wigeon.

Eighty species and a blessed day
