My husband and I went to Twanoh State Park in Belfair
after work yesterday because the sun was out and
that's a rare thing right now. Of course, I didn't
have my camera, so I knew I was going to see something
spectacular. As we passed by this old long log house,
that they use for group parties, we noticed a bird
inside, pounding on the glass, trying to get out. It
was a Varied Thrush. I entered the building and walked
along the wall, so as not to scare him, hoping to herd
him towards the door. Instead, he hopped down onto the
table about a foot away from me and stood there,
giving me the once over. What a beautiful bird!!! The
orange was sooooooooo orange, and the black was
soooooo black. The black band around his chest was
crisp, not blurry as I had seen through my binoculars
in my yard at home. I moved forward, and he hopped
over to the next table. We continued this dance until
we got closer to the door. He flew to the opening and
stopped at the threshold, giving me a backwards
glance. Then off he flew, making little sounds as he
went. He flew waaaaaay off into the distance,
disappearing into just a little spot on the horizon.
