Subject: [Tweeters] Ecological change with the increase in eagles

I read with interest the posting by Kathy Andrich about eagles and herons
in Medina Park. I have also read articles about sea-bird colony disruptions
by eagles. It is interesting that the eagle population declines in the 60"s
also corresponded with the last 4 decades of habitat conversion, reducing
the nesting and feeding opportunities for many species.

Given the severe reductions in nesting habitats for Great Blue Herons, I
wonder if the delisting of the Bald Eagle will be followed by the listing of
the Great Blue Heron, and, in some future date, will we be managing GBH's by
removing Eagles? The impacts of the increasing populations of a large
predator on the rest of the community pose an interesting and difficult
dilemma.
