Yesterday, (March 18) a mature Bald Eagle perched on a tall evergreen in
our yard for about an hour before being routed by a flock of crows (and
pooping on our car in the process). In the morning a male Purple finch
showed up with a few female House finches at a black oil sunflower seed
feeder, staying for about 10 minutes before being chased out by a gang of
Pine Siskins.
Also on the 18th at Indian Island a gaggle of some 30 Brants along the
shoreline at Mystery Bay along with a pair of Pied-billed grebes, six
Buffleheads, and a mixture of Double-crested and Pelagic cormorants, three
pair of Black scoters, and about 20 Common Goldeneyes. Along the road to
Fort Flagler State Park we encountered at least 50 Northern pintails and a
pair of Green-winged teal. At Fort Flagler, the pond near the USGS
Fisheries Research facility contained some 30 American widgeon, three pair
of Northern Pintails, several Common goldeneyes and one Killdeer.

Today, March 19, a male Rufous hummingbird appeared briefly at our feeder
and about 20 minutes later a female Anna?s hummingbird fed for about 2
minutes before moving on. We?re located on the SE edge of Port Townsend, off
Hastings.
One additional item: We?ve had problems with mice hitting the feeders at
night. Yesterday morning there was an owl pellet on our front step,
containing undigested bone and hair thus demonstrating that we?re getting
some help.
