Yesterday (3/20/07) I stopped at the grassy knoll of the Kent Ponds (Green River Natural Resources Area). I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the RED-SHOULDERED HAWK. I didn't see the hawk, but I did enjoy a swarm of TREE AND VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS. Among these swallows was a single BARN SWALLOW. Also, there were 2 or more NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS in the mix. This for me is an early spring date of this species. Beware of female TREE SWALLOWS that are less than bright blue.
