Surely Wiley Slough (aka Skagit Game Range Headquarters
Unit) on Fir Island west of Conway must rank equally
with Nisqually - I think it really depends on which
mess of traffic you want to avoid.

It's still there as it has been for decades, but the
latest rumor I've heard is that money may have been
found to start its destruction, so it may not be there
much longer. What will be left afterward probably won't
rank in the top 20, so enjoy it now. From the web site,
wileyslough.org, destruction/construction may be
starting in the next month or two. Replacement public
access facilities will be left until last (in case they
run out of money) and won't be in place until next
year.

This project is estimated to cost 2.8M 2005 dollars,
will ruin a premier location to experience wildlife,
and, in my opinion, do very little to increase salmon
habitat.
