Subject: [Tweeters] Good bird vine? And swallows . . .

Hello Tweeters,

I've been off this list for six months because in September I hatched a
nestling of my own--I believe the code would be BABY or perhaps GIRL.
Anyhow, we have added a trellis around our deck and would like to plant
a bird-friendly vine that meets the following criteria: attractive or
interesting year-round and if there is fruit, not something too big that
will splat down and stain the deck below (no grapes, for example.) I
don't know much about native vines but assume that such would be best
for our native birds? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Until this year, I'd never seen Violet-Green Swallows before the first
week of April. Last year, Joe Meche mentioned here that he sees them
around St. Patrick's Day, and this year I saw (first heard) them on
March 16th in Auburn. This leads me to believe they were here that
early all along; I just wasn't aware to look for them!
