Hello,



6:15 am found my friend Bob and I out at the Leahy Junction in Douglas
County. Not much sleep, but the 15 displaying SAGE GROUSE made it all worth
it. Also in the area were Brewer's and Vesper Sparrow. A little further
south at Stallard Lake we found a Merlin and a flock of eight Dunlin.



Jameson Lake road provided good looks at SAGE SPARROWS (1 mile in from Hghwy
2), Rock and Canyon Wrens as well as numerous waterfowl in their spring
regalia at close range. There was also a Ferruginous Hawk cruising the
cliffs at Jameson Lake.



At Mansfield, we located another Ferruginous Hawk, this time a beautiful
dark phased bird and several Eurasian Collard Doves. We looked for Dusky
Grouse in Central Ferry canyon but realized we were a little late in the day
to expect success. Out best bird here was several singing Cassin's Finches.



At the Highland Snow Park along Havilla Rd in Okanogan, we located several
conspicuous pairs of WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKERS and several Pileated
Woodpeckers Also in the area were many Clark's Nutcrackers, Chestnut Backed
Chickadees, Brown Creepers, and two PINE GROSBEAKS.



Most of the ponds were still frozen, but every tiny hole that was open had a
couple of Barrow's Goldeneyes with the more common stuff. Mountain Bluebirds
were conscious around Molson as were Northern Shrikes and many Rough Legged
Hawks.



At about 6:30 pm, we found a very curious and cooperative GREAT GRAY OWL
along Hungry Hollow Rd. He did not seem to be concerned at all by two nearby
calling Great Horned Owls. We closed out the evening with two Northern Saw
Whet Owls along Torada Creek Rd.



We were blessed with a good and day and had lots of fun.
