I was thrilled to hear a Northern Pygmy Owl tooting from a fir tree last night just as it was getting dark. The rain had slacken to a drizzle and we tooted back and forth for about 30 minutes before I was forced back into the house because of the weather.

Today the yard was hopping with birds, and I think I might have found the nest of one maybe two Rufus hummingbirds.

A Varied Thrush came by and was digging under the sheep's spilt hay when a male Robin took exception to his presents and chased him from the area. This Robin is very bold and has flown right up to myself and my husband when we are in the yard, giving us a hard stare.

I was just going back outside this afternoon when I saw a Morning Dove being chased by a Coopers Hawk, they flew fairly straight even with all the trees, the Coop caught the dove and they both fell to the ground into the bushes. I did not want to scare up the Coop so stayed where I was and started noticing that small white feathers were coming from one of the maple trees (the direction the birds had come from). I searched with the bins and could not see another bird, and think that the Coop may have grabbed the dove and then lost it, I then saw the second catch.

I enjoyed the day without all the rain.
