Just a quick note to say that we saw Juanita Bay Park's first wood duck (for us) last Friday. We saw the male or the pair (male and female) Saturday and Sunday also so it looks like he and she are around for a little while.

Yesterday (Sunday) morning, about 8:00, I was out photogrpahing (in the rain!) and after taking a few shots of said wood duck, I heard an unholy racket coming from inside the reeds. I said to myself, "I have never heard that bird call before" which is always a call to go looking around for a new bird. I walked around the walkway and near an area where mallards and wigeons normally roost/sleep, I saw splashing. I thought it was coots having a fit, but it turned out to be two beavers, locked in, um, well, it's mating season. :-) They made quite a racket for around two minutes and then parted ways.

It all goes to show you that it pays to keep your ears open for new "sounds".
