There was a Say's Phoebe at the Kent Ponds (Green River NA) today around
1.30pm. It was moving between newly-planted trees and water pipes just
to the east of the trail that leads to the northern observation tower.
The red-shouldered hawk is still around - I found it today behind the
Animal Shelter down the closed-off access trail.

I finally got to see the Renton palm warbler this afternoon after I was
giving up again, when a helpful lady showed me where she'd just seen it.
(If you're here, many thanks - it reappeared about ten minutes after you
left.) I only got a look at it through branches for maybe ten seconds,
but it did helpfully wag its tail for me to show me its yellow
underparts.

On the less unusual front, I found my first orange-crowned warbler of
the year among the many yellow-rumped at the Cedar River. Most of the
waterfowl have left the Kent Ponds, and the savannah sparrows have moved
in and started to sing. There was a marsh wren gurgling in every patch
of reeds, and I flushed seven western meadowlarks from the short grass
as I walked in through the gate. I saw many tree and violet-green
swallows, but no others yet - no ratty-looking barn swallows for me!
