Yellow-billed Loon: Saturday, March 24, at Langley on Whidbey Island. The bird was in full winter
plumage and near about 6 Common Loons, only one of which was still in winter plumage.

I found this bird while surveying for Western Grebes. I've been struck by how few sizable flocks of
Western Grebes I've found this winter on the Sound. I'm trying to learn more about Western Grebes and
why their decline in Puget Sound has been so precipitous. I would welcome your observations of
grebes, particularly those of sizable flocks persisting over the winter. Location, dates and numbers of
grebes would be especially valuable, both in the Sound and on the outer coast.

Thanks,
Dan
