This early morning I took a walk out into the Chehalis Wildlife area accessed from Schouweiler Rd. behind the Bayview Redi-mix plant just outside of Elma. I heard at least 3 singing Common Yellowthroat which are first of the year birds for me. Also, while scoping the larger pond further out the grassy road I found a single male Surf Scoter, which is an unusual sighting for this inland location. I heard only one American Bittern vocalizing as well. No Osprey as of yet for the nest snag in the wildlife area. They are a few days late compared to last year.
