Hello Tweets,

This afternoon/evening I saw the Sage Sparrow at Marymoor Park in Redmond,
from about 5:30 to 6:00. It was feeding around the northern part of the
dirt/compost piles. For most of the time I watched it, it was constantly
flicking its tail upward, about once every 1-2 seconds. I don?t think I?ve
ever had long enough looks at a foraging Sage Sparrow to see this
tail-flicking, but I understand it?s typical of the species. This
behavioral characteristic should make the bird stand out even at a distance
(much like the tail-wagging of Palm Warblers).

Also present at Marymoor, in the open meadow east of the dirt piles, was a
gorgeous Northern Shrike. It was perched in various bushes visible from the
dirt piles from 5:15 to at least 6:30.

Good birding,

Matt Dufort
