Thanks to all for the wonderful response to my inquiry
about current air travel with binoculars as carry-on.

In summary the replies were: definitely take in
carry-on bag; no problems have been experienced this
way, in either domestic or international travel. Do
not put in checked baggage as the risk of theft or
damage is substantial.
