I was basking yesterday evening in the joy of knowing that I was finally
seeing for certain both White- and Golden-crowned Sparrows in our yard, radiant
heads all around. It was then that three gorgeous male and one (presumably
very flattered) female Goldfinch elected to take over the other feeder just
feet from our kitchen windows. Dinner prep (swimming Rama) was handled more
gingerly than usual as a result of trying to minimize disturbance and enjoy
their coming and going.

But this AM at breakfast the G'finch population had swelled to at least 10 -
and that was just the nearly-blinding males! If there were females present,
I missed them. They were in the general vicinity for at least an hour in
the 7-8AM timeframe. I could barely grapple with cereal. Several were back
during the dinner hour.
