Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday May 3. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

The Meares Lake TUFTED DUCK is now being seen at the Bay City Sewage Ponds.
The Fern Ridge Reservoir TUFTED DUCK is also being seen.

Migrations are running on schedule and were quite heavy during the week.
Especially conspicuous were BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, BULLOCK?S ORIOLES,
WESTERN TANAGERS, and WESTERN KINGBIRDS. Seven WESTERN KINGBIRDS were at the
Portland Airport April 28. BLACK-NECKED STILTS are now back at their
expected marshes; seven are now at the Tualatin NWR and two at Finley NWR.
Heavy movements are being seen along the coastal beaches, including a
FRANKLIN?S GULL off Boiler Bay May 1.

On May 1 a flock of VAUX?S SWIFTS were reported entering a chimney in Oregon
City and up to 5000 at the Chapman School chimney in northwest Portland. Two
SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were along Marine Drive in northeast Portland April 29.
On April 28 four SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at Oaks Bottom in Portland. A
RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was at Pittock Mansion in Northwest Portland April 27.

On May 1 a GRAY FLYCATCHER was in Oregon City. Three WHIMBRELS and a
LONG-BILLED CURLEW were seen April 28 along Smithfield Road north of Baskett
Slough NWR. A flock of 40 WHITE-FACED IBIS were at Fern Ridge Reservoir
April 28.

On April 27 a male HARLEQUIN DUCK was on the Burnt River between
Bridgeport and Durkee in Baker County.
