Subject: [Tweeters] Cooper's Hawk nest on Queen Anne, Seattle

This morning I visited a small park on Queen Anne in the hopes of seeing
some migrants, and was very surprised to find a COOPER'S HAWK nest. I
heard one of the hawks calling soon after I arrived, and then saw a
juvenile-plumaged bird chasing off a crow. I lost track of it until it
called again, and found it in a madrone tree, standing on the nest. A
little while later, I saw an adult bird, presumably the other member of
the pair, fly into a nearby tree. The hawks called intermittently the
whole time I was in the park. This seems like an unlikely location for
a nest, as the park is small, fairly open, and heavily used by people
and dogs.

I am reluctant to post the location of the nest here, but I will be glad
to send more information to anyone who is interested.

I did end up seeing some migrants, as well as the usual resident
species:

1 Hammond's Flycatcher
2 Warbling Vireo
2 Orange-crowned Warbler
10+ Yellow-rumped Warbler (mostly Audubon's, but at least 1 Myrtle)
1 Townsend's Warbler
1 Wilson's Warbler
1 Western Tanager
