yesterday I found the new nuthatch nest, it was being drilled as I listened and watched. A pair of Red-breasted Nuthatches always seem to use that old maple for at least one of their nests. And they constantly drill it in the dead section and just under the start of a branch.
And today at the suet log just outside my window they were eating together with the male feeding the female. The female then took a bite of suet for herself and some of it fell and she swooped and grabbed that small piece right out of the air. Nothing better then knowing there will be more nuthatches soon.
