This morning I decided to drive over to the Umtanum Recreation Area in the Yakima Canyon in hopes of finding an early Yellow-breasted Chat, but to no avail. Probably just a few days to early. Overall the birding was pretty good with a single LAZULI BUNTING and GRAY FLYCATCHER being a couple of good birds at this site. I then made quick stops in Cle Elum and at the Crystal Springs Campground area, just off of I-90 at exit 62 (Stampede Pass exit) to round out the trip. Some of the highlights were:

BARROW'S GOLDENEYE - Cle Elum

CHUCKAR - heard calling from canyons at the Umtanum Recreation Area

LEWIS WOODPECKER - 6 birds seen, but probably more in area - Umtanum Recreation Area

HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER - Crystal Springs Campground

GRAY FLYCATCHER - Umtanum Rec Area

ROCK WREN and CANYON WREN - Both heard calling in several places from the canyons at the Umtanum Rec Area

HOUSE WREN - Umtanum Rec Area

HERMIT THRUSH - Umtanum Rec Area

VARIED THRUSH - Crystal Springs Campground

CASSIN'S VIREO - heard calling at Crystal Springs Campground

NASHVILLE WARBLER - Umtanum Rec Area

YELLOW WARBLER - Umtanum Rec Area

ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER - Umtanum Rec Area

WESTERN TANAGER - Umtanum Rec Area

LAZULI BUNTING - Umtanum Rec Area

Cheers and Good Birding;
