Kelly,

I haven't yet seen a response by Scott Murray to your question
about the 3 White-breasted Nuthatches he reported yesterday at
Ridgefield NWR.

However, having birded this area several times myself, I can state
that White-breasted Nuthatch is much more likely to be seen
along the River S Loop than Red-breasted, at least in the
breeding season. I have seen them nearly every time I've
birded the area, and I'm sure they breed nearby.

This is one of the few locations in western Washington where
White-breasted Nuthatches are still a regular species. (They
seem to have pretty much disappeared from Pierce and Thurston
Counties.) However, the population around Ridgefield is probably
continuous with the widespread population in the Willamette Valley
of Oregon.

All the best,

Scott,

Did you mean to say Red-breasted Nuthatch rather than White-breasted?
