I have some old Forest Service maps showing designated Spotted Owl habitats, etc. At the time, they were discussing what to preserve and what to open up for logging, etc. The areas in the central and southern Washingtton Cascades look horribly fragmented. Up here in Whatcom County it looks fragmented too, but there are or were some areas of decent size, in wilderness areas and the National Park. But it's cold up hhere, and at the limit of Spotted Owls' tolerence for cold winter blasts from Canada.

That's the way it looks to me.
