Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday May 10. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

An offshore boating trip May 2 encountered large flocks of storm-petrels 42
to68 miles off the southern Oregon Coast. Besides the expected LEACH?S and
FORK-TAILED, a HORNBY?S, ASHY, and BLACK or MARKHAM?S STORM-PETRELS were
observed.

On May 6 a YELLOW RAIL was flushed from the Kiwi Trail in Ridgefield NWR. A
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was seen May 4 in Northeast Portland. Two male
GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES were near Tillamook May 4. A MANX SHEARWATER was off
Boiler Bay May 9.

Peak numbers of shorebirds passed Oregon during the week, primarily along
the coast. SWAINSON?S THRUSHES are now arriving. Several GRAY and DUSKY
FLYCATCHERS were reported from the Willamette Valley, and CALLIOPE
HUMMINGBIRDS continue to be reported from Western Oregon. A COSTA?S
HUMMINGBIRD was seen May 4 at Veneta.

On May 7 a BLACK SWIFT was over the Sandy River Delta. The next day two were
over Oregon City. A pair of PINE GROSBEAKS were seen May 5 in the Columbia
River Gorge at Nesmith Point, above Yeon State Park. Up to five SOLITARY
SANDPIPERS have been seen during the week at the Killen Wetlands, west of
Banks. On May 8 a BLACK-THROATED SPARROW was at Bald Hill in Corvallis.

On May 8 a VIRGINIA?S WARBLER was reported from Malheur Headquarters, and a
VERMILION FLYCATCHER from Fields.

That?s it for this week.
