Friday, May 11, 2007 - Vaughn Bay, Washington

I have never seen Evening Grosbeaks in my backyard
before. They must be passing through (only two females
seen this morning.) Also a Purple Finch couple has
been around for a couple days. That is unusual.

Pine Siskins and American Goldfinch are the
predominate backyard birds right now. Other regulars
include Song Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow,
Yellow-crowned Sparrow, House Finch, a nesting House
Sparrow family, a few Dark-eyed Juncos and Spotted
Towhees. Cowbirds were seen at the feeders this
morning. Hope they continue on to someone else's yard.

A pair of Harlequin Ducks have been hanging out in
front of the house for a couple days. (I live on the
bay.) Also, a Mallard couple. Two Bald Eagles were
sitting on the beach yesterday. Canada Geese, Belted
Kingfisher, Osprey, Caspian Terns, Great Blue Heron
and multi-gull species are regular.

During the Winter National bird count I tallied 33
species in 15 minutes. Great birding out on Key Peninsula.
